The map shows seasonal expectations rather than observed colors at every location. The main timing graph follows typical vegetation change from historical satellite data; it is not a prediction of the exact day of peak leaf color. Weather and local conditions can move the season earlier or later.

Open “About this moment” for the source details and any supported short-term peak-color window. An empty area means an estimate is unavailable, not that there is no fall color. Short-term feed data older than 48 hours are not treated as current.
