Is Next Light free?

Yes. The current iPhone app is free, with no account required and no ads.

Will it work on my phone?

Next Light requires an iPhone running iOS 26.2 or later. You can also explore golden hour times and the fall color map in your web browser.

Do I have to share my location?

No. Choose a U.S. home location manually to use the app without device-location permission. Save home and up to four additional places. Current Spot is an optional one-time location check.

Can I choose which notifications I receive?

Yes. Reminders and aurora alerts are optional. Choose the moments you want in the app, and manage notification permission in iPhone Settings. Delivery depends on permissions, available data, and operating conditions.

Is the fall map a live report of the leaves?

It is an experimental seasonal estimate. Weather can shift the timing, and coverage varies. Check the date and source notes before planning a visit.
